AZEPLER

Yerlikulu askerinin ilk sınıfını meydana getiren Azepler, harplerde büyük hizmetler görüyorlardı. Ordunun ön saflarında yer almalarından dolayı düşman taarruzuna en çok onlar maruz kalıyorlardı.
Kelime olarak “bekâr” demek olan Azep tabiri, Osmanlı askerî teskilâtında bekâr, güçlü ve kuvvetli olan gençlerden meydana getirilmiş bir askerî sınıf için kullanılmaktaydı.
Klasik Osmanlı ordusunda Azepler, Anadolu’daki Müslüman Türklerden kurulu hafif piyade askerî birliğidir. Bayraklarında "Kaderde ne varsa o gelir başa" yazılıydı.
